Finding Love, Creating Change and the Birth of Marriage Equality

A young queer woman lands in 1980s Los Angeles chasing a new life, only to find herself pulled into love, loss, and a movement bigger than she imagined. Set during the AIDS crisis and the rise of West Hollywood activism, this memoir shows how chosen family, messy courage, and everyday acts of love changed history giving us marriage equality.

And after years of believing lasting partnership might have passed her by, author Ariel Penn finds love after fifty — a late-in-life romance that feels both deeply personal and quietly historic. Her marriage becomes more than a happy ending; it is the intimate fulfillment of a movement she once helped push into being.
